‘This Place Is Magic’: A Review

What if running away is what brings you home?

I received the best bookmail from indie author Irene Te last month, like how cute is the Apollo (A9OLLO? 😜) print? You know I love a K-pop/K-drama inspired book, so I was so excited to be chosen for the Colored Pages book tour of This Place Is Magic.

After missing his flight back to Seoul, a disillusioned K-pop idol finds love, acceptance, and the strength to fight for his own happiness at last.

While escaping his duties as K-pop idol Ari, Eunjae is "adopted" by the effervescent Han family, owners of the waffle shop he serendipitously stumbles into, who are blissfully unaware of his identity.

Away from the pressures of fame, Eunjae discovers the love & warmth of the simple life he yearns for—one that he is even willing to give up his idol life for—and the strength to fight his powerful agency for his chance at true happiness.

But at the same time, he must also weigh his desire for freedom against the fate of his 8 brothers, the other members of his internationally renowned group, Apollo.

The book left me wanting more of everything: more about the Apollo members, more about the Han family (Denny is an enigma lol)... more romance!! The easy solution was to read Irene's newsletter, buy the stories collection (This Song Is Ours) and pre-order the sequel (This Place Is Home) 🤭 I can't wait until they arrive in my hands later this year ♡

It was the perfect start to cozy fall reading (because for some reason, cozy fall books = desserts?) and an easy, light story to help me get out of my recent reading slump. I had a good time with it ☺️
