‘Orange Complete Series Box Set’: A Review

“Every life is precious. Please treasure each and every day, the present, the moment, and yourself.”

orange is a deep, emotional story about friendship, regret, overcoming grief, and the profound impact of our choices on others' lives, with a sprinkle of adolescent romance.

On the morning of Naho Takamiya's first day of 11th grade, she receives a mysterious letter. The sender? Herself.. 10 years in the future! At first, she shrugs it off as a prank, but as the letter’s predictions come true one by one, Naho realizes that the letter might be the real deal. Her future self tells Naho that a new transfer student, a boy named Kakeru Naruse, will soon join her class. The letter begs Naho to watch over him, saying that only Naho can save Kakeru from a terrible future. Who is this mystery boy, and can Naho save him from his destiny?

orange is a deep, emotional story about friendship, regret, overcoming grief, and the profound impact of our choices on others' lives, with a sprinkle of adolescent romance. It is through this love for one another–both romantic and platonic–that the characters are able to find the courage to influence fate, all while discovering more about themselves & their own strengths.

It's been a long time since a book, let alone a manga, has made me cry. Ever since I finished it, I couldn't stop thinking about it and was so happy to finally get my hands on my own physical copies earlier this week. I can't even remember when I last bought manga! The artwork in the manga panels is already so clean and beautiful as is, but the colour and texture on the covers and postcards just elevate the art with additional life and feeling.

I'm still watching the anime, but I already want to re-read the series (without the pressure of a library loan due date) to really look at all the details. If you ask me a book(s) I'd recommend this year, THIS IS IT! 🍊
