Headcanon: Valeria Corinne Géroux

Valeria {brave, strong, valiant}
Corinne {beautiful maiden}
Géroux {spear + wolf}

Being brought up by a family who prides themselves of their aristocratic stature and intelligence, Valeria was raised to succeed and to become the best - there is no other option, even if moralities into question. However, she does not completely agree with her family’s lifestyle choices and therefore, often feels outcasted. Valeria puts on a cold and nonchalant exterior in order to mask the chaos concealed inside her mind; she is the epitome of calm, cool, and collected. Once she allows others to be acquainted with her (which is a rare honour of sorts), people will find that she is actually quite warm and empathetic, her friends of high importance. Intrepid and spontaneous, Valeria always enjoys a stimulating adventure (while she is not studying or reading, that is).

Birthday & Year: June 30; sixth year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

House: Gryffindor

Appearance:

Of average height, with a lean body built. Dark brown hair - sometimes appearing slightly auburn - past the shoulder; layered with a bit of a wave; parted to the side. Petite and delicate features. Eyes are of an alluring cerulean.

Blood Status:

The Gérouxs are of mixed-blood status and have some creature (werewolf) blood running in their veins, pertaining to their (quite recent) ancestral history. Though, due to their honourable and high-ranking position, the Gérouxs try to hide this fact in any way possible. Unlike the rest of her family, blood status does not matter in Valeria’s book. She fully accepts her family’s background and secretly thinks it is pretty cool. Though in order to keep her family’s name clean, she must keep her past undisclosed.

Family: Mother, father, older brother of four years

Background:

An aristocratic and influential family, the Géroux’s ulterior motive is to rise above the rest in any means possible, with no regards to moralities. Following Voldemort’s demise especially, they have risen even higher to acclamation, working smartly with many different wizarding groups.

The Géroux bloodline has an unknown past of housing a couple werewolves, thus blackening the family’s otherwise clean name from generations. With the help of charismatic wit and tactic (and of course, magic), Valeria’s ancestors were able to hide their status from the Werewolf Register when the first of their family was infected with lycanthropy - Valeria’s grandfather. This, unfortunately, did not stop the production of werewolves within the Géroux family. At the tender age of three, Valeria was attacked by her grandfather while he was in mid-transformation, as he had not taken the month’s dose of Wolfsbane Potion. The only thing that stopped her from living the difficult life of a werewolf is her older brother, Alain. In order to protect his sister, he had gotten bitten himself in her stead, becoming the second werewolf of the family. The two were close to begin with, but after this turn of events, they have an even stronger bond, he being the only person that Valeria genuinely and completely trusts. She now has to cope with the unwanted lupine tendencies that arise within her.

Along with Alain, Valeria considers her maman and papa as family. Coming from a line of Slytherins, Valeria’s sorting into Gryffindor was beyond belief. Though indignant, her parents grudgingly accepted the reality and continue to raise her as a scholar (because who isn’t absolutely brilliant in the Géroux bloodline) in a strictly manner, consistently attempting to assimilate her ideals by imposing on her their own. Despite their harshness, both parents strive to protect the familial bond between themselves and their daughter, yet Valeria possesses an indifferent attitude towards them, and especially towards their moral values. Although some days, she can’t help but miss their presence; it is a love-hate relationship.

With Alain being selected as Slytherin prefect and her being sorted into the family’s ‘rival’ and ‘most hated’ house of Gryffindor, Valeria knew she had to take slightly more desperate measures to make her parents proud. Since at a young age, her parents had fawned over Alain’s sharp intellect, smart tongue, charisma, and charm - the perfect child who was to succeed this Géroux household. Valeria, on the other hand, had always been interested in other things that her parents deem to be useless in life: adventure, fun, and friendship. Having been raised inside the walls of the Géroux manor all her life with nothing but books for company, she longed to experience the outside world and to form meaningful friendships. The latter, she knew, would be difficult as she had no prior experience in making friends nor interaction with anybody her own age, family members aside. She also knew that she would treasure any true friends and protect them with all the will and strength she could muster up. When her time to enter Hogwarts came, Valeria was all over with emotions: exhilarated, nervous, indifferent, and even slightly gloomy. But after meeting fellow wizards and witches and being sorted into her own ‘dream house’, Valeria’s heart and mind opened up, and embraced the change between worlds in her life.

Traits:

+ Persistent - One cannot rise above if they do not have a drive. Valeria’s persistence comes from her constant yearning for her parents’ approval, and even recognition of her talents and abilities from fellow witches and wizards. It is because she is persistent that she is also quite stubborn and headstrong.

- + Headstrong - Both a positive and negative trait. Valeria is firm about her opinions and ideas, but can sometimes be inflexible to others’ due to her pride in her own intelligence. She will take a stance for something she believes in, and when she makes a decision, nobody can change it. This trait is a characterizing trait of a large majority of the Géroux family.

+ Courageous - Yearning for adventure, Valeria will take on any challenge that comes to her, especially when her extremely valued friends are in danger.

+ Resourceful, smart - She knows how to get out of any tight situation through the use of cool intellect and manipulating the environment around her. This is also another defining characteristic of the Géroux family, though Valeria is more sensitive to doing things the right way than her relatives.

- Impulsive - In words, not in actions. Due to the fact that Valeria had no social life prior to her entrance to Hogwarts, she still has some difficulty understanding people and realizing that not everything that comes out of her mouth is necessarily something people would find complimenting.

- Insecure - Bearing the mark of her family in her name, a lot of the time she is misunderstood for being just like them in their values and actions, and for being stuck-up. And because of this, not many people dare come close to her or get to know her better. This makes her feel insecure, lonely, and frustrated on the inside - a whirlpool of emotions. But she is able to mask it behind a cold, indifferent face.

Wand: Silver lime with phoenix feather core, twelve and a half inches, quite flexible

Patronus:

Valeria’s patronus takes the form of a wolf, which is fairly logical in the sense that the memory she uses to conjure up this patronus is of the time her brother had sacrificed his life, in a way, for her by taking her stead in getting bitten; a time she knew that somebody genuinely cared about and loved her enough to do such a life-changing thing. Although it was an unfortunate event, it brings her feelings of comfort, safety, and genuine love.

Boggart:

Losing or being forgotten by somebody she values and loves as a consequence of her own misjudged or impulsive actions. Valeria would never be able to bear the guilt should this happen. The boggart would take the form of her loved one, very much dead as a ghost, with eyes that pierce into her soul, full of hatred.
